Clarksburg is the newest large-scale development in Montgomery County — dense planned neighbourhoods of colonials, townhomes and larger single-family homes built over the last couple of decades, alongside the small historic core along Route 355.

Newer does not mean trouble-free. On builder roofs of this generation the issues we see are installation-related rather than age-related: improperly nailed shingles, valleys and step flashing detailed quickly, and ventilation that meets the minimum and no more. Many of these houses also have steep front-facing gables and multiple dormers that concentrate water into a few valleys.

Clarksburg sits high and open in the upper county, closer to the ridge country toward Damascus, and takes direct thunderstorm wind with little to break it. Creased shingles along ridges and lifted tabs at exposed gable ends are the typical findings, with hail during severe cells.
